Abby Bella May | Wish We Could Be Friends

Sydney's indie-pop princess Abby Bella May has released her fresh single 'Wish We Could Be Friends', which is sure to be stuck in your head for days on end.

Building on her previous singles, 'Wish We Could Be Friends' offers a window into Abby's personal life, with a witty edge. Staples of Abby's signature sound, lush production and atmospheric vocals are elevated by funky bass and a quirky groove. Lyrically, the track is inspired by the complications that come with the aftermath of a breakup and the tension between maintaining a friendship and needing space.

“I wrote ‘Wish We Could Be Friends’ about wishing you could maintain a friendship with an ex but knowing that in order to get over them, you’ve gotta let go”.

Garnering attention and support from Spotify and Apple Music, as well as a spin on The Zane Lowe Show and a sold-out show at The Vanguard, Abby Bella May is inspired by the likes of Clairo, Maggie Rgoers and Benee. Her sound combines floating vocals amongst a lush and dreamy soundscape of production to form a unique low-fi sound that is all her own.

Abby’s music is an intimate snapshot of youth; reflections of her life, and the lives of those she is closest to. Her songs ground themselves in personal stories, manifesting as fun and catchy lyrics that draw listeners into her world and make them want to stay awhile. Abby’s music is genuine bedroom pop, produced in a Bondi Beach home.

'Wish We Could Be Friends' is out now.
