Following on from the release of her much-loved EP ‘Harmless Fun’ last year, which found support from a whole host of influential tastemakers, “awkward pop” pioneer Belot has now returned for 2023 to deliver her glittering new single ‘Cool Whip’ through Submarine Cat Records.
Continuing to pursue more of that bright and groove-filled aesthetic she has cultivated for herself, ‘Cool Whip’ sees her return for the new-year with one of her most explosive offerings to date. Filled with bright and vibrant textures against her own captivating vocal performance, she looks to add another vital addition to her bubbling catalogue to date.
Adding about the single, she said,
"'Cool Whip' is about being in a relationship with someone who initially seems caring and extremely generous, but down the line you come to realise that every gift and or kind gesture was a cover up for yet another affair or slip up. I’ve had a few friends over the years that eventually discovered spontaneous flowers could also be red flags. So I always thought it would be interesting to write about the sort of dynamic, where the nicer the gift, the worse the crime."
As well as releasing her highly-acclaimed EP ‘Harmless Fun’ in 2022, she also saw out the year with a flurry of live performances, including a sold out headline show at London’s Paper Dress Vintage and various support slots as well as festival highlights at Made Me Like It and Latitude. Belot has also announced a pair of live shows in June this year, including Mighty Hoopla Festival in London.
Belot is a pop fanatic. She adores pop – she lives it, breathes it, and devours it whole. Well, she’d have to. Her own songwriting - deliciously infectious, hilariously engaging - is pop in its purest, most ruthlessly enjoyable sense. It’s crafted by a student of the genre, someone who wakes up in the morning with a song in her head, and won’t rest until it’s down on tape before breakfast. It’s what allowed her debut EP to become such a surprise success and it’s what is driving her to undreamt of heights.
From hereon in, at the quietest moments of the day and night, Belot is set to be your companion, shaking up your life and providing something unique, and truly addictive.
