NYC based alt-pop project Eighty Ninety have shared their new single 'Better As Friends' following their previous release 'Happier'. It comes as the second single form their forthcoming sophomore EP, created in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer Gian Stone, who has worked with the likes of Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Halsey and Dua Lipa.
With tender vocals and timeless beats that shimmer with nostalgia, 'Better As Friends' is a cinematic masterpiece, with dreamy production and a lush soundscape. Driven by mellow, 80's-tinged synths, melodic guitar riffs and slick percussion, the track is super euphonious with a captivating indie dance-pop groove and accomplished lyrics.
They say on the track,
“It's about the desire to live in the past rather than face the end, and how loving someone can mean wanting the best for them even if that no longer includes you."
The duo of brothers Abner and Harper James, fuse intimate storytelling, sticky melodies and minimalist pop production built on acoustic and electronic sounds in a style they call “808s and telecasters”.
Since their debut in 2016, the duo's music has garnered over 26 million streams, featured on numerous Spotify playlists and we're hand-picked by Taylor Swift for her official Spotify playlist 'Songs Taylor Loves'.
'Better as Friends' is out now.
