‘Blue Crush’ is the debut EP from California’s pop star in waiting Emerson in Blue and arrives with the video for new single ‘Give It Away’.
‘Blue Crush’ is a six-track collection that tracks the development of Emerson’s relationship with her muse and reveals a truly contemporary alt-pop artist who is creating a truly immersive world around herself and her music. ‘Give It Away’, finds Emerson in Blue in a difficult period of a burgeoning relationship.
She explains,
“When I started writing the lyrics I was in the throws of a push & pull dynamic in my relationship and I was feeling very down about it all - this song helped me reframe it and find strength in the situation. Even though it was painful, I love having this song as a time capsule for that time in my life."
The third clip in a trilogy of videos, it is the culmination of the first part of an autobiographical narrative that will extend over the course of Emerson in Blue’s next two releases and documents the story of one year, two lovers and three different destinations.
Sonically, Emerson in Blue is as inspired by The 1975, MUNA and The Japanese House as she is by 80s greats such as Peter Gabriel and ABBA. All these influences can be heard throughout ‘Blue Crush’, with glistening synths and driving drums providing the perfect complement to Emerson’s soulful pop vocal.
With the trilogy of EPs set for release over the coming months, Emerson in Blue is here to provide escapism and glorious pop songs that are impossible to get out of your head. Emerging as a creative powerhouse, 2022 is fast shaping up to be her year.
