EP Focus | GROUNDSTROEM

Upcoming Swedish artist GROUNDSTROEM has confirmed himself as a star of tomorrow with his sparkling long-awaited debut EP ‘Boy On The Moon’.

In his first EP, the Stockholm-based artist has raised his game to another level with a collection of tracks consisting of acclaimed singles, 'Ain't Got a Prayer', ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ and ‘To the Side’, as well as title track ‘Boy On The Moon’.

Following a stellar 2020, 'Boy On The Moon' further cements GROUNDSTROEM’s position as one of Sweden’s most captivating new pop artists, with his latest powerful pop anthem drawing comparisons to compatriots Boy In Space, SHY Martin and Felix Sandman with his earnest lyrics and famous Scandinavian melodic edge.

We had a chat with GROUNDSTROEM to talk all about it...

Introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself!

"My name is Filip Groundstroem and I release music under my last name, GROUNDSTROEM. I’m 25 years old from Stockholm, Sweden and I’ve been playing music since I was a little kid. I started to work on my own music in my early 20s and released my first single 'Sunset Trouble' a year ago. Besides working on my own project I love to write with and for other artists as well!"

You’ve just released your debut EP ‘Boy On The Moon’! Can you tell us a little about it!

"The EP is mix of songs where I feel the key theme is about being young, lost and in love. The vibe of the songs are very melodic with a cool combination of an organic and electronic/modern sound."

What was the writing & recording process like?

"The process of creating this EP lasted trough the whole year of 2020 and I worked with a small team I’m super close to. It was important for me that the same people was involved in all the songs in order to it all make sense together. For my debut EP it felt so right to work with people close to my heart."

Are there any key themes, stories or inspirations that run throughout the EP?

"Basically these songs describe the past 2-3 years of my life. It’s my own experiences and people around me, just life you know. I really tried to creating a soundtrack for a young person's life and I’m super happy with how it turned out."

Do you have a favourite lyric or whole track from the EP, if so, which one and why?

"That’s a tough one, but I can’t deny 'To the Side' makes the party going! When it comes to lyrics I feel ”I’m just a boy on the moon” is my favourite line from the last single on the EP 'Boy on the Moon'. That line just describes me and my struggles in life right now so well."

How have you found trying to be creative over the past year which has been especially difficult for artists?

'These are for sure challenging times for us artists right now. A lot of the motivation with creating music is to perform and perform live and that’s not really possible as we all know. We just have to look past this period and focus on the fact that when all of this is over we can sing together at concerts again."

What do you have in store for 2021?

"Writing, develop my sound, work with new inspiring people and release a lot of music. I’d also love to play my songs live, fingers crossed that will be possible during this year. Other than that my dream is to one day be able to sell out stadiums and tour the world with my music, so we just keep going!
