Rising Berlin artist L'Aupaire has recently unveiled his new single, titled 'Lisbon,' which has been described as 'a seventies-inspired daydream, reminiscent of heritage Fleetwood Mac.' He manages to tell a beautiful story through his music, which has been beyond welcomed by listeners. 'Lisbon' takes you into a new reality, with the talented L'Aupaire needing an escape from the often dreary Berlin weather, with Hamburg musician Lùisa accompanying him on this single.
The Lowdown recently had the opportunity to catch-up with L'Aupaire to speak about the track 'Lisbon,' what he has planned for 2022 and more. Keep reading to check out what he had to say!
You have recently unveiled your new track, 'Lisbon.' What is it like for you to have new music released?
"It's exciting and always different. There's a lot of things to take care of before and after. You can never really tell what is or not happening with a song. I'm always grateful for people liking it, sending me messages and supporting it!"
What does 'Lisbon' represent to you?
"It's about fantasising to leave Berlin in the winter by taking the night train to Lisbon. Winter in Berlin is cold, dark and grey. People are constantly in a bad mood. Sometimes, in January/February, I can't stand it anymore. I just hate it and want to leave, like a bird heading somewhere south!"
For anyone who wasn't heard your new track yet, what would you say can be expected?
"A train song, with guitars all over it and two people singing deep down from their hearts."
Who would you say are your musical influences?
"I love blues, jazz, folk, indie-rock and singer/song-writer music. When I started my career, I was inspired by Fink (UK), James Vincent McMorrow, Feist, Bon Iver and many more!"
You have a new LP out in the spring of next year. Can you give us a preview of what can be expected from this?
"It will be the best music I've ever written - guaranteed!"
What have you got planned for 2022?
"I would love to travel again and play shows wherever people like and listen to my music!"
Can you sum up your sound in a couple of words?
"I like to mess around with simplicity and dynamic. Music of the sixties. Tape. Lo-fi. Punchy low drums. Vintage sounds. I like clichés and to break them apart. I have over a one hundred years old piano and a couple of crappy guitars. I love distortion on everything, but gentle, and I love pedal steel and ambience to sweeten things up."
Going back to your roots, how did you first get into music?
"I became a music addict as a teenager and started jamming in a basement with my friends at a certain point. It was something new for me and I was able to feel an energy I've never felt before. It was the best thing ever!"
Finally, do you have a message for all those who support you?
"Thank you guys! I'm really looking forward to sharing new music with you soon!"
L'Aupaire's new single 'Lisbon' is out now and is available to purchase and stream through all major responsible music purchasing and streaming outlets.
