Get To Know | Blle

Being immersed in music from a young age, writing songs in her bedroom and performing whenever she could, Blle has now gained support from the likes of BBC Introducing and her debut EP reached No. 6 in the Singer / Songwriter iTunes Chart.

On the release of her brand new single 'Keep Repeating', we had the chance to speak to Blle as part of our Get To Know series...

Welcome to The Lowdown! Tell us a little about you!

"Thanks for having me guys - I'm an alternative pop artist who has over 45 plants in her house and is very happy about it."

Where are you from and what’s your favourite thing about that place?

"I'm from Nottingham, my favourite thing about Notts is definitely the Hockley side of the city. It's full of independent bars and shops, a great lil community!"

What’s your earliest musical memory and how did it shape your career as an artist today?

"I was OBSESSED with the band Steps ahaha, I rinsed their tour video tape for months and months until it wouldn't play anymore. I was also mega obsessed with Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, I would dance around my room with my microphone pretending I was performing on my arena tour (lol). This definitely ignited my passion for music and performing, I would perform for anyone that came round our house until they left."

Can you sum up your sound in the form of a hashtag?

"I'd have to say #moodypop - I like to complain a lot in my songs."

If you had to choose, who would you say are your biggest 3 inspirations?

Banks and FKA Twigs are two artists I really look up to, such powerful women who write incredible music. Taylor Swift has been an inspiration for me throughout the years, I really admire her incredible ability to tell stories through songwriting."

You’ve just released your new track ‘Keep Repeating’! Tell us a little about it!

"Yes, so exciting! I wrote the track earlier on this year in bed on my guitar very hungover. I started producing the track at home but wasn't quite sure where I wanted it to go, so I took it to my friend Michael Bird who helped really nail the sound I wanted."

Is there a story behind lyrics?

"It's about a guy I had a super strange relationship with, I wanted to explore the complications of casual relationships and how we ignore our own advice in order to satisfy our needs. It's my most honest song to date and it felt like a huge weight lifted off me when I wrote it, I almost stepped back and looked at myself and thought wow I need to stop doing this. I played it to a few of my close friends once it was finished, and they all related to it too which felt amazing."

How are you finding releasing music in such a difficult time for creatives and the industry right now?

"I love writing and collaborating with other writers/artists, so it's really strange not being able to do that as much as I would usually. I'm not a zoom session kind of person, I find it hard to get into the groove. I think people need an escape now more than ever and that's why I've kept releasing during all this - I know how important music has been to help me get through this time. I feel so sorry for all the people behind the scene who aren't getting the support they need, especially touring crews who have been left in the dark. I try and keep as positive as I can during this time - I know that we will come out of this stronger than ever and appreciate live music so much more."

Finally, what can we expect from you next?

"I've got some more 'Keep Repeating' related stuff coming so definitely keep an eye out for that. I'm also working on a new project that I'm super passionate about, so I'm going to be hiding away for a while working on that. It'll be worth the wait I promise, it's my favourite material to date."

'Keep Repeating' is out now.
