Get To Know | Felix

Rising R&B / Pop artist Felix has released his second single of 2020, entitled 'Y.M.L.G'.

This ultimate chilled summer track provides a taste of Felix’s new emerging sound which he has been developing throughout his music career. The production of the song is inspired by Felix’s love for RNB, Pop and Indie Pop, drawing on inspiration from the likes of Lauv, Sigrid and Bazzi.

As for the writing process of Y.L.M.G, Felix expresses,

“this song was written after a breakup, focusing on the feeling of being let go before I was ready to let go and then feeling almost betrayed that this decision was made and not wanting to admit that I saw it coming all along.”

We decided it was a good time to speak to Felix as part of our get to know series...

Hello and welcome to The Lowdown! How are you?

"Hey! Thank you for interviewing me, I'm super grateful for being able to have a chat with you.

I'm doing good, I am super busy but good. I hope you and the team are too!"

Introduce yourself and tell us a fun fact about you!

"So, hi! My name is Felix I'm a singer-songwriter and I'm 22 years old. Hmmm a fun fact about me would be that I have an unhealthy obsession with pancakes, I could definitely eat them 3 times a day haha! Seriously I'm not kidding."

Where are you from?

"I am from Birmingham, UK."

When did you realise you wanted this to be your career?

"If I'm honest I got a guitar at the age of 7 and back then I just wanted to be the next slash haha. Then I, when I was 12, I realised that I wanted to write songs and sing too and truth be told I was terrible but I knew then that I wanted to make it happen for me. So I ended up playing my first show at the age of 13, from there I haven't thought about doing anything else, I am the happiest creating music."

What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not making music?

"I really like working out, I spend a lot of my time in the gym making sure I am healthy and eating right as I plan on sticking around for as long as possible!"

Have you had a stand out moment in your career so far?

"That's a really hard question I really can't choose just one. I have had 2 in my career so far... The first would be the first time I was played on the radio, I was only 14 and for some reason, BBC Introducing picked my terribly produced single to play on air. I thought at the point I had made it for sure.

The second would be my Ep Launch in 2018 when I sold out my favourite venue The Sunflower Lounge, everyone who came really wanted to be there if that makes sense? The room was just there for the music it was a great feeling."

What would be your dream venue to play?

"I'd really love to play the Roundhouse and because I dream big Hollywood Bowl has always been a goal of mine!"

You’ve just released ‘Y.L.M.G’. Tell us a bit about it! Is there a story behind the track?

"So I wrote this song back in June last year and I was fresh out of a break-up but this break-up really changed the way I looked at relationships, not just romantic ones but all kinds. The song is about being let go before I was ready to let go and the hurt that comes with becoming strangers again as well as not wanting to admit that I knew it was going to happen."

How has the reaction been so far?

"The support so far has been great, I am so happy after such a long break from releasing music my fans are still there and with me. I was really surprised about how many people reached out to me that the song was really relatable."

For those who haven’t listened to your music yet, how would you sum it up in one sentence?

"I would definitely tell them to listen! haha I joke. I would say that it is honest pop music saying what you're probably thinking."

What’s coming next for you?

"'Y.L.M.G' is the first single of many, I've spend lockdown writing and demoing soo much music with my amazing team to create something really special for the future. So more music and more shows hopefully!"

And finally, have you got a message for your supporters?

"Be kind to each other, tell people you love them. Life is short, don't spend it not living. And listen to good music!"
