Following up on her latest single 'Shy or Something', rising dark-pop artist Hanna Mel has made a powerful return with expressive anthem 'Lost My Appetite'.

With emotive vocals and a melody that sticks, the track is about that one good looking boy who acts like a piece of trash. It's the second single from her upcoming EP which is scheduled for release later this year. Clouded in darkness and mysticism, her musical expression continues to evolve in anticipation for the release.
The 23-year old producer and songwriter continues to redefine the genre on her own terms. Her artistry is all about sharing her thoughts and feelings, packaged in a minimalistic and dark soundscape.
We had the chance to Get to Know her a little better as part of our series...
Tell us a little about yourself!
"My name is Hanna Mel, I'm a 23 year old songwriter, music producer and artist from Sweden. Currently I’m a student at Musikmakarna - the Songwriters Academy of Sweden."
When did you start making music?
"I started writing my own songs at the age of 14 when I taught myself some chords on my sister’s guitar. When I was 18 I wanted to learn how to record and produce the songs I wrote, so I bought a microphone and applied for a course in music production."
Where are you from and do you feel like your surroundings inspire your sound in any way?
"I was born and raised in Asarum, which is a village in the outskirts of a small town called Karlshamn, by the south coast of Sweden. The ocean has always inspired me emotionally, it’s like... Scary yet beautiful. Like feelings. Like life."
Who or what inspires you to make music?
"Writing songs is a way for me to process my feelings. But the source of inspiration isn't always something deep and emotional, sometimes phrases my friends say during conversations instantly make me think "woah, that could be a great song title". One of my teachers at university taught me to always keep the "songwriting hat" on. So I do. I'm always ready to write a song whenever something inspires me."
Have you had a particular stand out moment so far?
"The moment I got the news that I got admitted to Musikmakarna was a pretty big turning point for me. Before then I wasn’t confident I even had any talent, because the only people who liked my music were my friends and family. But at that moment I realised I actually knew what I was doing, and I decided that I was really gonna go all in for a career in music."
How would you sum up your sound in less than 5 words?
"Honest, minimalistic, dark-pop."
You recently released your new single 'Lost My Appetite'! How has the reaction been so far?
"It's been great, and I’m so thankful for all the kind words! I feel like people are a bit surprised with the attitude of this song though. I’ve released a lot of sad and anxious songs before, but this one’s got more confident lyrics. But I’m more confident as a person now, so get used to it."
Tell us a little about the track!
"The story behind 'Lost My Appetite' goes back to this dude I once met. His outstanding charisma made him seem like a good guy at first, but his actions and values quickly changed my perception of him. Feelings of interest turned into disgust – it made me sick. Time and time again, he tried to win me back. But all I saw was this shallow facade. This song is a 'f you' to every dude who's got hubris enough to think that everyone wants a piece, when they can't even behave like a decent human being."
The single is taken from your upcoming EP which is due out later this year! Can you give us any hints about what we can expect from the release?
"You can expect some more of this attitude, but you’ll also hear me explore different sounds within the dark-pop world."
Finally, what else can we expect from you in the near future?
"I’ve got some very exciting collaborations coming up this summer! I’m not allowed to give you any details yet, but let’s just say that July is gonna be a banger month."
