Based out of Nashville and Los Angeles, emerging pop, 4-piece boyband 5WEST have built a die-hard fanbase in recent times. They've just released their new single 'Last Time'.
Supporting legendary boyband Boyzone in 2019, as well as performance slots at the Presidents Ball in Cape Town, Gran Canaria Pride and Unlock Festival with The Prince's Trust, 5WEST's new single 'Last Time' is a R&B tinged, pop sensation and an ultimate feel-good bop.
The track was developed and produced by Bryan Todd (Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus) with remixes by Liverpool native KOKIRI, Dublin based DJ & Producer Robbie G and up and coming UKG producer Louis Smyth.
Owen says,
“I think it could be our biggest song yet. The lyrics are really cool, because usually when you hear “Last Time” it has a negative connotation and a feeling of regret but in this case, it’s about finding the one and being happy, just knowing you won’t ever need anyone else. It’s got such an interesting track too, it’s so dynamic, I love it.”
The boys have took the world by storm since their 2019 debut 'Stars About You' which flew straight into the Top 30 of the Billboard Charts and Top 10 of Music Week charts, and they are now signed to the world's leading live agency Martial Arts with a 2021 tour lined up.
We had the chance to exclusively speak to the boys as part of our get to know series...
Introduce yourselves and tell us a bit about the band! Owen: "I’m Owen based in Nashville but I lived in CA and New Zealand prior, that’s Peet he lives in Los Angeles , that’s JonPaul lives in Nashville and interesting fun fact. His Uncle is Scott Stapp from rock band Creed! And that’s our newest member Caleb born and raised in Nashville. We are 5WEST. " When did you meet each other? Peet: "Feb 2019, but Caleb Feb 2020!" Is there a story behind the band name? Jon Paul: "We first auditioned in L.A. and the band was suppose to be 5 members." When did you start making music, separately and as a group? Caleb: "I started when I was real young I’ve been playing instruments since I was 3 and started writing around 10. as a group we started together in February of this year." How would you describe your sound in the form of a hashtag? Peet: "I would say #pop" Who are your biggest inspirations, musically? Everyone: "Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, BTS, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran."
What’s been your stand out moment so far as a band?
Owen: "Probably performing at the London Palladium last October opening for Boyzone."
Based out of Nashville and LA, do you feel like your surroundings influence the sound? Peet: "For LA, yes. For Nashville, not so much — we don’t incorporate any country… yet!"
You’ve just released a new track entitled ‘Last Time’ - tell us a little about it!
Jon Paul: "Yes, it just released and is about seeing someone for the first time and that being the last time you fall in love. Pretty romantic and musically uptempo."
How has the reaction been so far?
Owen: "It’s had the best start of all our songs, we’re pretty excited about it!"
What can we expect from you guys in 2021? Caleb: "Definitely new music and hopefully a lot of touring!"
