Brooklyn based artist Laney Lynx has just released her new single 'Venting', which is the result of bottling up feelings and the importance of communication in our relationships.
We had the opportunity to speak with Laney about the new release and more as part of our Get To Know series..
Introduce yourself and tell us a fun fact about you!
"Hi! My name is Laney Lynx. I am an artist, vocalist, songwriter and all around creative soul. I have a newfound love of collecting vinyl and love playing pinball over a round of beers at the bar in Brooklyn! (Pre-2020, of course.)" Where are you from, and what’s your favourite thing about that place?
"I grew up near the ocean in Rhode Island, U.S. It was such a beautiful and contemplative place to grow up - making fond memories by the sea is my absolute favorite thing." How would you describe your music to someone who’s never listened to you before?
"My music is optimistic, thoughtful pop with groovy basslines, blissful nostalgia and a touch of soul. I've had listeners say my voice is like "velvet" and that makes me feel cozy on the inside." What’s your earliest musical memory?
"My earliest musical memory is performing at a local talent show in Jamestown, Rhode Island. I was 6 years old singing a song from The Little Mermaid dressed head to toe in a full on Ariel sequined costume. My love of performing definitely sparked (and sparkled) starting there." Who are your biggest inspirations?
"I'm largely inspired by women in music - Pink was one of my first big inspirations and the first artist I ever saw in concert - now, Amy Winehouse, Maggie Rogers, Emile King among many others." Have you got an overall favourite moment of your career so far?
"Music has taken me traveling around the globe from Malaysia to Mexico with stops in between. Experiencing other cultures while doing what I love has been an absolute blessing. As soon as borders reopen I'll be on the next flight." Tell us a little about your new track ‘Venting’!
"'Venting' is all of the feelings bottled up and then exploding everywhere. It's about expression. Speaking your mind. It's about the little things that bother you about your relationships that you never talk about and then one day you just have to get it all off your chest." What’s the reaction been like so far?
"I've had listeners say "MAN this song HITS after 7 years in a relationship + COVID quarantine", "best combo of feels and fun," and "my favorite song of yours yet" - I would say the reaction has been all I could have hoped for and more." Do you have a favourite lyric from the track?"My favourite lyric is definitely the bit about 'trash talking' and 'word vomit.' I'm honestly pretty proud and can't help but laugh to myself that I've managed to smoothly sneak the words 'trash' and 'vomit' into a serious song." Finally, what are your plans for 2021 so far?
"I'm releasing, releasing, releasing in 2021. I have tons of music to get from my laptop and into the world. Planning out visuals has been harder to do with covid protocol but the music is there and ready for ears. Get your headphones ready, 2021!"
