Get To Know | Nathan Dawe

Quietly becoming one of the Midlands' biggest and most popular DJ's over the past few years and regularly selling out shows to 3000 capacity audiences in Birmingham, Nathan Dawe is currently in the spotlight, hitting radio and sitting at Number 17 in the UK Singles Chart with his twist on Sweet Female Attitude's UKG Classic 'Flowers' featuring guest verses from rapper Jaykae.

During the current lockdown, Nathan has been running weekly interactive live stream parties consisting of challenges, drinking games and giveaways etc, via Facebook and Instagram, all of which have ended up trending at 5 on Twitter in the UK. He has also given away prizes including gig tickets, signed football shirts, drinks bundles and more in a raffle to raise money for our NHS charities a few weeks back where he raised over £5100.

We got to know him a little better...

Introduce yourself and tell us something about you!

"Hi! I'm Nathan Dawe. I'm a DJ/Artist from the midlands."

When did you start making music?

"I can't really remember a time where I wasn't making music or doing mixes. It was always an ambition of mine to release my own material and to be in the official charts. When I was a kid, me and my sister were glued to the radio to hear who was in the #1 spot. My dream was to have a record in the top 40 so to do that with my latest single 'flowers' has been a really surreal experience."

What is your biggest motivation?

"I just love seeing a positive reaction to a song I've released. I love seeing the faces of fans at live shows when I play a new tune and everyone goes crazy for it. I really thrive off fan reaction so I'd definitely say that's what keeps me motivated."

Where is your favourite place to play?

"I love playing everywhere. The buzz from a live show is a feeling I really can't describe and every venue and city has their own special vibe. If I had to pick one though it would have to be my headline show I do every year at Birmingham O2 Academy. It's a bit of a homecoming for me after 12 months of touring all over the place throughout the year. We've done 4 headline shows in a row, all at 3000 capacity and they always sell out really quickly which blows my mind. Those shows are just massive end of year parties!"

You produce dance tracks but what is your favourite genre of music?

"I love all genres and I see myself as a multi genre artist/DJ. At all my live shows and my mixes, I play everything from dance to grime to bassline. I really don't have a favourite genre, it just depends what I'm feeling at that particular moment."

What is your favourite social media platform right now?

"I love all of them but I'd say I'm most addicted to Instagram."

What would you be doing if you weren’t producing and making music?

"I'd like to say I'd be playing professional football as the first choice goalkeeper for Aston Villa..."

Is there anything that makes you really angry about the industry?

"I wouldn't say so. I wouldn't really describe myself as an angry person. If something frustrates me I just prefer to laugh it off and get on with it."

What is your idea of a perfect night / night out?

"Honestly my perfect night is performing at a show. As I said earlier, the thrill of a live performance is the greatest feeling in the world."

What’s your dream venue / place to play?

"I think it would have to be Villa Park. My family and I are massive Villa fans and having a headline show at the stadium is a real dream. Hopefully I will be able to fulfill it one day!"

What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

"It's going to be a year of new and constant music and mixes!"
