Nick Wilson has released his brand new single 'Enough to Know You'.
With over 76 million streams at Spotify and 1 million monthly listeners, British singer-songwriter Nick Wilson is primed to push his profile up to a new level.
Drawing on influences such as LANY and Noah Gundersen, the 25-year-old artist from Buckinghamshire developed his still accelerating reputation with a series of self-produced independent EP and single releases. He signed to Never Fade Records (home to artists such as Saint Raymond and Sonny) ahead of last year’s EP ‘A Face I’ve Never Seen Before’.
We had the chance to speak to Nick about his musical influences, last single 'Safe' & what his plans are for the next year...
Welcome to The Lowdown! Introduce yourself and tell us something about you!
"Hello! My name is Nick Wilson, I’m a singer/songwriter from London, and I’m not a fan of peanut butter?"
Where are you from?
"I’m from London in the UK, my favourite city in the world."
How long have you been making music?
"I’ve been making my own music for around 7 years now, but I started out making covers for YouTube way before then, probably 11 years ago now. Wow."
Have you got any artists on your playlist that no-one would expect?
"Selena Gomez. She’s great, I love her recent stuff. Just pop perfection really."
Can you sum up your sound in 5 words?
"Honest and cinematic emotional pop."
What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t making music?
"That’s a good question haha, probably something creative still... maybe graphic design? I love visuals and designing things so..."
Who are your biggest influences, in life or musically?
"Recently I’ve been super influenced by Coldplay, going back and listening to their earlier records and the way they write music. Noah Gundersen for lyrics, Bon Iver for the textures and sounds of their records."
What’s your favourite social media platform at the minute?
"Gotta be Instagram, it’s just filled with interesting people."
What is your idea of an ideal day / night?
"Pizza has to be involved in some way, day beers in the sun, films in the evening. Simple but amazing."
Do you have a favourite memory or story from your career so far?
"I think one of my favourite memories so far was going to LA to write last summer. 2 weeks out in the sun, it was my first time out there and I loved it. Such a cool city, everything felt like a movie haha."
You released your single ‘Safe’ at the beginning of June. How has the reaction been so far?
"Yeah! It’s been really amazing, I’m always blown away when anyone listens to music I put out, and this time I had 11 new music Friday additions on Spotify, so I was a happy man. People seem to love it which is great."
Do you have a favourite lyric from the track?
"I love the second verse, “wrapped up in the silence, cold and terrified, but it gets easier to focus, once you’ve seen the other side”"
What can we expect from you for the rest of 2020 and going into 2021?
"Lots more new music! And soon. I can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve been working on!"
