Get To Know | Sianon

British newcomer Sianon has released her final track of the year 'Boring, Happy, Beautiful', a stunning and delicate ballad, lyrically embracing life's simple moments that could otherwise be viewed as boring, but transformed into beautiful with the right person.

We had a chat with Sianon as part of our Get To Know series...

Introduce yourself and tell us a fun fact about you!

"Hi I’m Sianon! I’m a 22 year old pop singer-songwriter based in the UK and my fun fact is that I once had a drink with Robert Plant in one of the local pubs, well I say had a drink with - an involuntary drink as I just joined him at his table and started talking his ear off haha."

Where are you from and what’s your favourite thing about it?

"I’m from a small town called Dudley and I’d say my favourite thing about it is the chip shops, which sounds totally ridiculous I know but they do orange, battered chips that nowhere else in the country do or have even heard of so it’s definitely a hidden gem. "

How would you describe your sound in a sentence?

"Almost always sad but dressed up in a way that sometimes means you can have a bit of a dance. Although I don’t think there’ll be any dancing to this one haha."

What’s your earliest musical memory?

"When I was around 3 years old, I was on holiday with my family and did a terrible rendition of whole again - atomic kitten for the talent show. Pretty sure I was missing my two front teeth at this point so I feel sorry for the people in that audience, although my parents insist it was ‘cute’."

What’s been your stand out moment so far?

"I’d say releasing music. It’s crazy to see songs that I wrote in my bedroom, or ideas that I had whilst sitting on the train now being listened to all over the world. I don’t think that will ever stop being surreal to me."

Who are your biggest inspirations, musically?

"Taylor Swift has and always will be my biggest musical inspiration. I always joke that there’s a Taylor Swift song to suit just about any situation and I think the honesty and detailed storytelling in her lyrics put her in a whole different league musically. I’m also inspired by Lorde and recently Dermot Kennedy."

Tell us a little about your new track ‘Boring, Happy, Beautiful’! Is there a story behind the lyrics?

"Boring, Happy, Beautiful is my view on the perfect relationship really, it’s not about lavish trips to Paris or 100 roses at my door, although I would not complain haha, it’s about the nights spent sitting on the sofa laughing with your best friend, the ability to just exist with someone and for it to still be exciting and happy and beautiful. I think that sometimes the little things can be overlooked in the search for something more, something bigger and this song for me looks back on a time where everything was simple and effortless and in another world that would have been enough."

What’s the reaction been like so far?

"It’s been amazing so far, people have seemed to really connect with it and it’s been added to some of my favourite Spotify playlists. I’ve had so many messages off people saying it’s made them cry - which I think is a good thing? songs that make me cry always have a special place in my heart so let’s go with that haha."

Do you have a favourite lyric from the track and why?

"My favourite lyric is ’cause all these houses stood in a row they remember us’, I think when you’ve walked a certain way with someone endless amounts of times it kind of becomes second nature, you remember every street, every turn, every row of houses and I guess I wanted to change the perspective and paint a different picture (a very sad one oops hahah)"

Finally, do you have any plans for 2021 so far?

"Release, release, release. I’ve written so many songs this year that I absolutely love and I can’t wait to put them out. There’ll be an EP towards the start of the year that I’m SO excited about. Hopefully gigs will be back & I can finally sing the songs I’ve put out this year live."

Sianon is set to make waves in the music industry in 2021, putting her own, unique spin on commercial pop with edgy vocals and refined lyrics.
