Greta Issac has released her explosively charged single 'Like Me' via MADE Records. The track is the latest to be taken from her forthcoming EP due for release in May, arriving with a self shot, self-directed music video.
Developing from its gentle pop beginnings into a fervent, almost tactile soundscape, 'Like Me' reveals more than you may first assume, transformed by it’s “gnarly”, in Greta’s words, sounding guitar hook that makes the pent up frustration in the song feel almost tangible. The track lyrically examines the anxiety induing inner debate that arises when lost in the search for validation from others.
At the heart of her writing is a creative tension with an undeniable sense for ear-worm hooks and sharp pop melodies, combines with incisive and often funny lyricism that mixes the personal with the universal.
“We wanted something that sounded like anxiety, a quick heartbeat, that urgency. This rising panic. We just bashed it out in an hour. It sounded like a dance track that we were thinking of pitching to someone. But when we put the guitar in it became so gnarly," Greta remembers about writing it. "It’s probably the most on the nose in terms of just wanting to be validated and how that is my intention behind everything I do. But I still wanted it to sound like a euphoric release, for it to give you relief from any panic that I felt. I never get bored of it, I love it!"
'Like Me' follows in quick pursuit of Greta's first two releases which have both attracted a glut of media attention from the likes of BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders and regional stations such as BBC Radio Wales & Amazing Radio, in addition to several editorial playlists across DSPs.
Born to a musical family in rural Wales, Greta started writing songs as a child, often in her native Welsh language. The poetic traditions and story telling of her homeland continue to shape and influence her artistic process; one that has culminated in her forthcoming EP ‘Pessimist’ due out in spring 2021.
'Like Me'is out now.
