Here at The Lowdown, we love nothing more than introducing our readers to new, up and coming talent that we highly recommend checking out! In this article, we introduce you to Flynn Marks, who has most recently released his new single 'Waiting For Us,' which is lifted off his upcoming EP 'Cold Comfort,' set to be released next month.
Aptly following on from his previous release, with his single 'Crown,' 'Waiting For Us' is very soothing in its nature and its simplified nature truly allows for his vocals to be exemplified. The stripped-back nature of the track ultimately allows listeners to appreciate his rich and uplifting vocal performance.
Setting the precedent for what is expected from the release of his upcoming EP, 'Waiting For Us' uses little more than an acoustic guitar and his exceptional voice. The track has the ability to draw you in right from the first beat of the track, and inevitably captures your full attention.
The Lowdown recently had the opportunity to speak with Flynn Marks about the release of his new single, what can be expected from his upcoming EP, his plans for the remainder of 2021, and more. Keep reading to check out what he had to say!
You have recently released your brand new single, titled 'Waiting For Us.' How does it feel to have new music released?
"It feels amazing! Lockdown really hasn't helped with the anticipation of release day and I was driving myself a little crazy, so I'm very happy for it to be out in the world!"
For anyone who hasn't heard the single yet, could you describe it in a few words?
"If I had to pick three words to describe it, they would be raw, soulful and relatable."
The single is taken off your forthcoming EP, which is set to be released next month. What can you tell us about that?
"'Cold Comfort' is a five-track EP, which attempts to shine a light into the darkest corners of relationships, drinking too much and the fallout, and all the snakes and ladders that lead us toward poor mental health.
Ultimately though, it's more about the positive lessons I've learned rather than just getting burned. It was compiled in isolation, with only the carnage of the pandemic for a backdrop. I know it's not much, but it's frank and honest. Hopefully it'll resonate with people and bring a little 'Cold Comfort' to what can be considered a very challenging time."
Who would you say are your musical influences?
"I take influences from pretty much all genres!
Growing up, I was listening to whatever I could get my hands on, from The Stereophonics and The Black Crowes, all the way to Rihanna, Adele and Beyoncé. My voice is naturally quite soulful, and I was inspired by a lot of very powerful singers early on. I think that most vocalists go through that stage of belting Whitney and Mariah in their bedroom (I most certainly did as a kid!). More recently, I am a huge fan of country, folk and pop. They tend to sit closest to my song-writing styles. I am a big fan of hip-hop, rap and R&B and always try to take some inspiration from there!"
Aside from your EP, have you anything else planned for 2021 that you can tell us about?
"It's all in the works at the moment, so I'm not sure of anything specific. I'll definitely be in the studio working on the next set of releases, as well as a few gigs (hopefully pretty soon, once the lockdown is over). I can't wait to perform live - it's been way too long!"
Finally, do you have a message for your supporters?
"To everyone who has supported me, right from the start and to my newbies too - I appreciate you all so, so much!"
Flynn Marks' new single 'Waiting For Us' is out now and is available to purchase and stream through all major responsible music purchasing and streaming outlets.
