New Jersey’s alternative artist tyler drama has just released his brand new track ‘BLOOD ON JACKIE’S JACKET’
We spoke to tyler on the release and more as part of our Introducing series...
Introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you! “i'm tyler drama, a human musician. i'm inspired by so many different styles and artists, so i just call my music "alternative" since that's become such a huge umbrella.”
When did you first develop an interest in making music?
“after my father gave me his compact disc collection when i was growing up. i'd sit in my room for hours just listening to rock music.”
Where are you from and what’s your favourite thing about it? Do you feel as though your surroundings have inspired your sound in any way?
“i’m from Earth, or more specifically, New Jersey. the best thing about it is the fact that you don't have to pump your own gas. a while back we used to have something called a "music scene" which certainly inspired my sound back then and still manages to sprinkle it's way into my music today.”
Who are your biggest inspirations, musically?
“it's always changing, but at the moment i'm feeling inspired by The Wombats, Travis Barker, and Mallrat.”
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
“W. Axl Rose.”
You’ve just released your new single ‘BLOOD ON JACKIE’S JACKET’! How have you found trying to be creative during the pandemic?
“it was actually the best thing for my creativity. being told to stay inside by myself all day allowed me to get so much written/recorded and helped me thrive as a musician, which resulted in releasing music more frequently. plus, my introverted self loved being told not to go out and work, or see people, which really relieved some of the mental exhaustion.”
How has the response been so far?
“all love so far. those i've talked to personally really seem to resonate with the lyrics. i enjoy hearing different interpretations of my tracks and finding out which direction each person's brain took them.”
Tell us a little about the track!
“it's kinda funny, one day a friend of mine was telling a story, and at one point he said the phrase "blood on Jackie's jacket" and it just kinda stuck with me for some reason. fast forward to now, i wrote a whole story with music and lyrics based around those words. my song doesn't even have anything to do with my friend's original story. i recorded the entire song myself, and had some help on the production end from my extremely talented friend Carl Bahner. also some rad guitar engineering from Carson and Grant of Atrium Audio.”
What’s coming next for you?
“more f**kin' music, and eventually some sort of merch.”
