Australian producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jack Grace returns with new single ‘A Ribbon’, out now on Of Leisure.

Showcasing a more direct side, 'A Ribbon' is a melodic and heartfelt song about looking back - a place he is still tied to "like a ribbon". It melds a driving beat, reverb-laden piano chimes and expansive production and lyrics sang from the heart which pull you in. A truly haunting track.
Jack shares:
"‘A Ribbon’ deals with nostalgia, homesickness and mixed feelings about growing up with small town dreams."
Storytelling is at the forefront of this new material, written and recorded over the past two years. Often praised for his ability to straddle multiple genres, the classically trained pianist cites a melting pot of influences, from American songwriting greats Dylan and Springsteen and mavericks like David Byrne and Arthur Russell to early ‘00s post-rock and slow-core bands Low and The War on Drugs, via the electronic experimentalism of Massive Attack and Portishead and, more recently, Oneohtrix Point Never.
Jack describes his music as ‘Heartland Revival’, classic songwriting rooted in the everyday that draws on life through the lens of growing up in small towns and outer suburbs, and his own experience of moving from the vast rural landscapes of Australia to the cultural metropolis of Paris, losing and ultimately rediscovering a sense of self.
“Around the end of my first year in France I had a moment where I realised I had inadvertently ripped the rug out from under my identity and went about trying to rebuild it and I made this record while I did that.”
‘A Ribbon’ is Grace’s first original music since 2018’s sophomore EP ‘If I Tremble’, an exploration of a disintegrating relationship that included stand-out tracks ‘BE4UGO,’ ‘row me home’ and ‘us’. The 7-track collection drew praise from press outlets plus radio support from BBC Radio 1, Beats 1, KCRW and triple j. The skittering, imploring one-off ‘owe u one’ followed and last year saw Grace drop a lush, sultry string-laden take on Kacey Musgraves ‘Slow Burn,’ once again defying expectation.
With more new music scheduled for the coming months, ‘A Ribbon’ is an electrifying taste of what’s to come from one of Australia’s most innovative young artists.
