Josh Hewitt | Social Spotlight

TikTok has dominated headlines and been the talk of the last few months, with the social network soaring in popularity. We spoke to creator, Josh Hewitt, who has become a viral star amassing 1.8million followers and over 58million total likes on the platform.

What's your name & where are you from?

Hey, my name is Joshua Hewitt, really just go as Josh - and I’m from Norwich, UK.

What is a unique fact or story about you?

I got where I am purely through other people putting me down. Starting on what was musical.ly - I began posted videos. This of course lead me to be mocked by some fellow students in high school, but it only made me want to prove them wrong and persevere even more.

For any TikTok newbies, what is it that attracted you to the platform and what is it that you love most about it?

What I love most about the platform is how it’s connected me to so many people (some of who are now my best friends) and how it has lead me to really become an outgoing and productive person. As weird as it sound? I really think that connecting to people with similar interests as yourselves really helped me come out to my shell!

What has been your favourite dance or trend recently?

On TikTok I’m not the biggest dancer, but of course my favourite would be renegade. It’s one that everyone knows and isn’t too complicated. Not compared to the type of dances there are now. So for me... the renegade! That’s what seemingly started it all!

TikTok is famous for sending sounds / songs viral on there, which 5 tracks do you recommend we add to our playlist?

Five tracks to add to your playlist... I use more funny sounds and comedy skit type songs. But five of my personal favourite songs right now would be...

1. ‘Fantasy’ by Bazzi.

2. ‘Still Be Friends’ (feat. Tory Lanez & Tyga)

3. After Party by Don Toliver

4. New Patek by Lil Uzi Vert

5. Highest in the room by Travis Scott

There's a real community feel within the app, which other creators should we check out and why?

Definitely check out my best friend Becky on TikTok: @xbeckycookex! She’s great - I met her through the app and now we’re best friends.

Someone else I’d recommend is definitely @hanamartinx! Not only is she amazing at makeup, but she’s been through so much recently with her dad having had COVID-19 and the courage and strength her family have had, and have gone through is incredibly admirable and incredible. So definitely Hana.

And lastly I would say my good friend: @domvlogs! I think Dom is amazing, on all socials! He recently came out as bisexual, and again the courage and strength it took to do that is also extremely admirable and inspirational for those around him, and certainly those looking up at him!

What can we expect to see from you in the future?

From me, nothing too major - right now I’m just trying to work on my consistency on all of my platforms. So when I’ve got that covered and can see that my content is good enough and engaging enough people, then I can certainly start to make bigger plans. But for now nothing too major. Just continuing with what I do and love best!

Finally, which is your favourite TikTok you've created so far and why?

My favourite TikTok video I have made so far is probably the one that really blew up, and where most people know me from. It sounds so weird - but the video was of me falling into a wall in a reenactment of my personal ‘iron deficiency’ not that I suffer from it bad, but it really blew up... The video now has 11Million views.
