Welcome back to Just Discovered, where we introduce you to our new favourite artists and bands that have caught our eyes and ears this week...

AMBERLAKE X KELLA

First up this week is BBC Introducing 'Artist of the week' Amberlake, who released his first major single 'I Can Be Cool‘ featuring LA pop artist KELLA earlier this month. Co-written with Nina Nesbitt, this song is a duet about how a person is willing to change who they are in order have a chance with that person.

Amberlake is an exciting new project formed by guitarist and producer Nick Tsang. Nick has toured the world playing guitar for acts such as Ed Sheeran, Busted, and Charli XCX whilst amassing production and songwriting credits with artists such as Jess Glynne and Nina Nesbitt.

The name Amberlake came from the Chinese take-away that Nick's grandad started when he first arrived in England. With one hand dipped in pop and the other in serene electronica, Amberlake has its own brand of quietly euphoric, expansive alt-pop. Amberlake has set himself a target to release new music every 3 weeks throughout 2020 and has recently been made 'Artist of the week' by BBC Introducing 2020. With all the pieces now in place, Amberlake will be turning many heads over the coming year.

FERRARO

Ferraro released their new track 'Fool's Paradise' on July 10th.

The inspiration behind the track was

"Seeing so many people, friends, being bogged down in a life they don’t particularly enjoy and craving some spontaneity"

Ferraro’s (as yet untitled) EP and its “upbeat, fun songs that people are able to dance to” – as Gianni calls them – and “themes of love, relationships and partying”- as Cosmo labels them – will go a long way to establish the band as dynamic entertainers.

Toronto-based pop rock sibling trio Ferraro –  guitarist Cosmo, bassist Tally and drummer Gianni (all three handle vocals) – is transforming a lifetime of experience into a well-oiled recording and performance machine as they rev up their career aspirations.

COMMAND SISTERS

The Command Sisters, comprised of Charlotte (vocals, keys) and Sarah Command (guitar, vocals), release their new track, 'I Like It' at the end of June, via 21 Entertainment/Republic Records/Universal Music Canada.

Sarah says:

“‘I Like It’ takes the listener into the exact moment I realised I was falling extremely hard for someone. It was intense, scary and exhilarating all at the same time.” Charlotte adds, “When I was writing ‘I Like It,’ I was inspired by those exact relationships where falling for someone feels like jumping off a cliff...but you like it and jump anyway.”

Command Sisters wield the power to turn popular culture red, the color being a signature feature of a finely-crafted image. After playing together since childhood, the siblings honed on a distinct sound and style that has brought them to what you get today. Sarah drew on a lifelong love of shred gods, such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Orianthi, as Charlotte nodded to the song craft of Sia and The Weeknd, cultivating a sharp signature sound steeped in mind-blowing musicality and tight hooks.

Their sense of style got just as loud with a crimson take on high fashion. This careful presentation turned heads. Additionally, they cultivated a fervent social media following through consistently eye-popping posts. Mind you, they impressively did all of this without one official release. After inking a deal with 21 Entertainment,Universal Music Canada, and Republic Records, Command Sisters are primed for a bold breakthrough.

WOODES

Giving you a taste of what to expect from Woodes upcoming album, new single 'Euphoria' was co-written with The Kite String Tangle, and shines with energy and positivity.

Shimmering with pulsing synth, saxophone, and keys, and a chorus rise that can only be described as “euphoric”, the single is a celebration of the feeling of connection and elation when finding and falling in love.

“We've [TKST] collaborated a bit in the last twelve months, doing a couple week-long writing trips for songs on my record.

It was written imagining it being played live, imagining it being so big and building at the end of the set, and sung all together. It's really fun collaborating with Danny as we just add more and more ideas, and think on a very similar wavelength."

The music video sees her journey through an unknown mythical dark forest clad in an ethereal white robe, as dark figures flash past her in a medieval dance of damsels and heroines.

Since debuting in 2016, WOODES (Elle Graham) has undoubtedly made an impact in just a short few years. From releasing two critically acclaimed EP’s, to having multiple tracks featured on radio, playlisting, and press across the globe, the Queensland–born, now Melbourne-based artist quickly carved out her own fresh and vital identity in Australia’s indie-pop scene, and hasn’t stopped since.

Her upcoming debut album ‘Crystal Ball’ is where finally all the elements of the WOODES universe come together. Due for release on October 2nd, album ‘Crystal Ball’ is a body of work years in the making. In total, Elle wrote 40+ songs for the LP, with much of the writing taking place during a three-week stint in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Scott Effman and others.

He says:

“This was a song I wrote about a year ago now. My girlfriend and I were both graduating from college at that point. She was pursuing acting, meeting all these people, and just doing a lot of cool stuff in general. This song was me dealing with the idea that she might move on to better things and leave me behind.”
