Alternative indie pop group New Friends are sharing their infectious new EP, Camaro, written in a lightning quick three days during a writing camp as the band were fresh off of their debut EP release.
Featuring bombastic previously released singles, 'Waste My Time', 'Ricochet' and 'Doomed', 'Camaro' functions as a short story about the endings of a relationship, from the initial phase of not wanting something to end no matter how bad it is for you through to feeling emotionally numb towards the situation. It then follows into the self depreciation of not being able to make a relationship work ever then, ending with the last minute hope that someone else is out there who will make you want to try again.
Focus track, 'Find You' is an anthemic realization of one's inner negative dialogue and self perception after a rough breakup. Breaking the cycle and seeing the world as an individual can be extremely difficult after losing someone very close to you, but with it comes the hope of creating an even better life.
The band explain,
“This is a project with songs we were surprised that the band was able to make in its still adolescent state. The band goes into this next phase now as a more honest and self expressive group thanks to all of the lessons we learnt about ourselves in the process of making it.”
New Friends — comprised of players from all over Southern Ontario, lead singer Stefan Boulineau, guitarist Cole Wilson, keyboardist/lead writer Ayden Miller, and Conrad - have experienced success at breakneck speed, landing LA management and a top booking agent. They played their first show in November 2021.
The Canadian indie-pop act, went viral with the very first song they ever recorded, 'Purple Candy', when they were practically strangers - now at 5.5 million streams and counting — scattered to their respective homes during Covid, recorded and released more songs, then won Slaight Music’s life-changing 'It’s Your Shot' contest. The resulting EP, 'Camaro', was recorded with the $100,000 studio and promotion prize.
