Ones To Watch 2020 | Charlotte

21 year old singer / songwriter CHARLOTTE is another artist who’s made our 2020 ‘One’s To Watch’ List.

Hailing from Hull, and only releasing her first tracks a year ago, she has already made a name for herself, supporting artists such as Picture This & Lewis Capaldi, as well as playing her own headline shows. Working between London and Los Angeles, writing for herself and other projects, she has written and recorded with creatives including Toby Gad, and in 2018 she began to construct her first project ‘Nowhere To Hide’ working with world renowned producers.

Her single ‘Nervous’ has hit over 2 million streams on Spotify and this year she will be appearing on the line up’s of various festivals including Hit The North, TRNSMT & The Great Escape.

We cant wait to see what else 2020 has in store for this talented artist.

When you first released your music back this time last year, did you ever expect to be at this point only one year on?

"Absolutely not. It’s pretty nice to get to the 1 year mark and reflect back. This past year has felt more like 4 years and I’m really proud of how much me and my team have achieved. It’s definitely not a race though and I actually don’t feel much different to how I felt a year ago, it feels like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what I want to achieve."

Your track ‘Nervous’ from your debut EP was highlighted in Spotify‘s ‘New Music Friday’ playlist and has gained over 2 million streams which is insane! What inspired the track and did you ever expect it to have the impact that it did?

"I’m not even sure how to comprehend ‘millions’. In the streaming world that number gets thrown around so casually now but it’s massive. I wrote ‘Nervous’ when I was 18 and I was hugely insecure as a person and a songwriter. The success of that song was a really nice bit of validation for the young me who had no self belief."

You’ve had backing from Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi and Jess Glynne to name a few. How does it feel to get such positive support from some of the biggest artists in the world right now?

"It’s quite a strange and surreal feeling getting acknowledged by people that have always seemed completely untouchable. Established artists bigging up and supporting new artists is extremely powerful and I’m hugely grateful to all of the artists who have been so kind to me!"

Your most recent release was back at the end of 2019 with ‘All My Life’ accompanied by a music video documenting the recording process. What made you want to show that experience for this particular song?

"I didn’t want to give people a narrative for that song. I really believe that everyone will be able to find their own story within it and depicting my story in the music may have taken something away from people. Instead I wanted people to see how every ounce of that recording came from me."

What do you hope to achieve by the end of this year?

"My main priority this year is writing more music. Really digging deep and piecing together what I hope will be my first album. Anything on top of that is a bonus!"
