Release Radar | 004

Welcome back to Release Radar, where we compile our favourite releases from the week alongside our monthly favourites playlist! Another set of amazing tracks released this week, we found it hard to choose which to feature!

DAWSON GAMBLE

First up this week is a track from Canadian artist Dawson Gamble - 'Everything About Me'. The song is the first offering from his solo project after performing with his now disbanded group The Chase.

It is a compilation of his dearest influences over the years and the single's upbeat vibe provides a stark yet tasteful contact to its edgy, sad lyrics.

Dawson Gamble's passion for music began at an early age with his father's love of Blues and Classic Rock integrated with Hip Hop and RnB's growing cultures intensifying his interest. After he picked up his dad's 1979 Fender Strat guitar, he found his own love of soft Blues and Ballad rock, gaining further influence from Eric Clapton, John Mayer and Ed Sheehan. His love for playing guitar and instrumentation led him to explore songwriting, further discovering his passion for musicality and zest of flowing lyrics.

SLIDE

Slide returned with their new single 'Waiting' as a midweek treat. Yet more genre-bending sounds on this bold and vibrant new cut that focuses on the theme of love being the antidote to fear, following the release of their stunning comeback single 'Hello Spirit' last month.

The Swedish duo are now continuing their upward trajectory with the new alt-pop belter, making the second new offering since the release of their debut EP 'Into Happiness' last year.

With its bouncing production and nods to artists like Blackbear and Dominic Fike, ‘Waiting’ links up with ‘Hello Spirit’ in previewing their forthcoming new EP ‘Things I Tell Myself’, which is set to arrive later this year.

It was just last year that Stockholm’s Albin and Simon introduced themselves with the accomplished debut EP, ‘Into Happiness’, a charming collection of grunge-infused anthems. The release not only racked up Spotify streams and earned substantial airplay from radio stations but established Slide as one of their generation’s more interesting bands – giving a modern twist and a new perspective to the classic genre.

With their upcoming release of ‘Things I Tell Myself’ EP, they’ve decided to rip it up and start again. It doesn’t just exceed expectations but defies their own past - embracing that rebellious punk spirit to coalesce new sounds and daring soundscapes: you’re more likely to find swaggering hip-hop beats, pop sensibilities and an unparalleled attitude than your standard rock fare. The tunes are all the better for it.

Accompanied by a set of videos shot in Los Angeles, the band’s latest EP is just the start of a bold new era. With fans already clamouring for new music on their social media channels, the duo trust that they recognise the band not just for their rock songs, but for harbouring the outspoken attitude too. Work on the next EP is well underway, and they’re keen to keep honing their craft.

XY&O

Enigmatic haze-pop trio XY&O return after over of year of near silence online with 'Left Alone' -a teaser track ahead of a full scale debut album release planned for late 2020.

XY&O self-release their music and have had nearly 40 million streams online as well as playing at Glastonbury Festival and a string of live dates and UK tours.

Cardiff based XY&O combine elements of chillwave synth-pop and RnB to create a memorable brand of sun drenched haze pop, juxtaposing eminently danceable hooks with profound lyrical content.

XY&O began as a dorm room project at university when Tudor Davies (keyboard, percussion) invited Skip, an old friend from Cardiff, to write, record and eat their way through a musical collaboration. With fellow student Nick Kelly (guitar, bass) now roped in, XY&O were born and set about writing ‘Low Tide’, their first official track together.

Gaining immediate popularity on Spotify, the band’s songwriting began to soar with debut EP ‘Shimmer + Shade’ taking shape. Now, over 35 million streams later the band are working on their debut album.

KYLE HUME

Also this week Kyle Hume has released 'Those Nights'. The track is inspired by the feeling that you get when rediscovering a song that you love, a track that takes you back to a specific moment in time when everything seemed just right.

"I wanted to make a song that would help others to be able to reconnect with something about themselves that can easily fall through the cracks".

Kyle Hume is artist and producer from Louisville KY, who's is currently in a little genre transition from a more progressive house feel into a more radio friendly sound. We love the track!

'Jus Sayin' is ClemonsAndCo's first single from his Untitled EP due late summer 2020.

During the 3 minute stunt, ClemonsAndco sings about drama with conflicted lover and consequences of the two never figuring things out. The track is inspired by early 2000's R&B titans; Dwele and Musiq SoulChild.

"I like to think of this as a new take on neo-soul era love songs"

ClemonsAndCo is a New Orleans Based, Detroit bred contemporary RnB singer with influences such as Frank Ocean and Dwele as well as early 2000's and experimental RnB. He wants to create a space where listeners drift away whilst listening to his songs.

REECE LEMONIUS

'Something I Can Feel' is a new release from Reece Lemonius which features on his new EP release 'Midnight'.

The track is a song of hope and suffering like few, asking for pain and darkness just to feel something, as that light of supposed hope shines right in front of one’s face. That sweet pain of longing that only needs a simple push, a simple release, a simple victory to turn into the pleasure we fear to lose again.

“Just give me something I can feel”.

Lost and found between dusk and dawn... Reece Lemonius ́ Midnight EP is a look into the past with a nostalgic yet vibrant modern twist, incorporating elements of alternative R&B, Funk, Soul and Melancholic Pop of days gone by.

Fading into the soundtrack of his own self-reflection, tech-noire phantasies and heartbreak scenarios... for a time that never was...

ERIK FRANK

Last but certainly not least on our radar this week is Erik Frank with his new release 'All Night', following a string of 2020 singles.

From a small village to the top radio charts, Erik Frank has amassed over 300 million streams and is a uniquely talented singer/songwriter, nicknamed 'Melody Genius' by Grammy Nominated producer Jayson DeZuzio (Imagine Dragons), and anyone Erik works with, the 22-year-old had humble beginnings.

Born in village of just 200 people, the idea of becoming a star was the very definition of a long shot. Getting out wasn’t easy. Moving from Spain to France, the U.K. and finally landing the U.S., Erik’s formative years and global experience began to permeate his music. His blend of R&B, Pop and Hip Hop is as unique as the countries he’s lived in.
