Edinburgh's star-gazing sons, The Lonely Together turn their heads to stormy seas with their staggering return 'Dark Water' - the no-nonsense fifth single from their long-awaited debut LP.
From its snarling introduction though jagged twists and turns, to its devastating conclusion, this hard-hitting cut is an anthem rock rollercoaster which pulls no punches and is yet another bold statement of Mike Baillie's natural songwriting talent and versatility. The track showcases a darker edge to the bands dream rock credentials - nightmare pop, perhaps...
'Dark Water' was recorded at CaVa Sound in Glasgow and The Lonely Together appear comfortable in the company of friends Belle & Sebastian, The Reindeer Section and Arab Strap.
Effortlessly conjuring the sexy swagger of 'Somethin’ Hot'-era Afghan Whigs with angular, serrated guitars pressed up tight against the sophisticated, ominous synth-rock of Papillon-phase Editors, the track matches strides with both. It is Baillie’s urgent, searing vocal though, that captivates and enthrals above all, painting a desperate picture of embittered betrayal against an enormous, ocean-sized backdrop.
The Lonely Together are a Scottish alternative dream rock band, carving out a mysterious path through love and sadness, hope and anger, beauty and pain. Founded on the emotive songwriting of Edinburgh’s Mike Baillie, The Lonely Together have set a high standard for an independent outfit, beginning life in some of Scotland and America’s best studios and touring with the likes of Snow Patrol, Augustana, Idlewild, Stars, Delays, The Besnard Lakes, Thom Artway, Lake Komo, Union Of Knives, Louise Connell amongst many more.
They are set to release their debut LP in Summer 2021, with a follow-up already rumoured for early 2022.
'Dark Water' is out now.
