The Pressure release their latest single 'Reason', via Helix Records.
'Reason' is a euphoric dance track with an addictive melody that listeners are guaranteed to have on repeat. The Pressure are a band built on a foundation of two friends writing songs and jumping around the studio while they do it. A combination that has resulted in many successful releases since their debut EP in 2019.
‘Reason’ caught the attention of screenwriter and director James Lewis, who frequently collaborates with the band on music videos. To reflect the relentless intensity of the music, Lewis wrote, directed and produced a narrative video about an encounter with a stranger that unleashes a cycle of chaos. An avalanche of energy that moves fast and drags you under, the film was shot on 16mm film by DOP Jacob Robinson across various locations in London last month, with editing from Ben Cowan at The Quarry.
Songwriting is at the core of the project for the London-based duo, comprised of Harry Buggé and Joe Andrew. It’s what allows them to communicate emotionally through their music, and is where they find purpose. In the emotion, in the feeling. Whether they’re exploring abstract ideas of euphoria or melancholy, or perhaps something more solidified - every song relies on an immediate reaction…the kind that dance music often delivers and something their new offering 'Reason' lands loud and clear.
Their approach to dance music has been recognised by Pete Tong - who compared The Pressure to New Order on his BBC Radio 1 show, as well as Jack Saunders that labelled their track 'Music & Dance' (a collaboration with Archie Ward) as his “Lockdown Anthem”. The emotion behind their song writing is also felt in their live performance. Here, the band channel a wider range of influences - from Iggy Pop and Jim Morrison to the likes of Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) and Underworld.
When The Pressure takes the stage, all of these different influences and processes come together. It’s an experience that encompasses everything from musical conception to performance and execution, an experience that can ultimately only come from a band.
